Johnny the Player
04:24
|
|||
Johnny is a player, hungry as a pike
His love affairs are all like going downhill on a bike
He enjoys the ride when his hair is blowing
but love fades with the high speed slowing
On level ground he’s off the hook
Won’t give that girl another look
He’s so charming when his wishes are fulfilled
But if she gets too close
his passion will be stilled
If she asks him why he seems so chill
Well, a girl who speaks her mind,
is far too steep a hill
Johnny has a prayer he’s repeating every night
Jesus won’t you give me please
a girl to hold on tight
My hair is gone
my speed is slower
I will no more use and throw her
I’ll take her uphill too
Johnny sobs low down and blue
But the rumour is larger than his pledge
His hope is crushed with the power of a sledge
Johnny was too handsome
The village was too small
Who could Jesus offer him
when Johnny had them all

Tree on a Hill
05:17
|
|||
The tree on the hill was bored
and brought the wind
to play with its leaves
The sea was sad and mournful
and brought the rivers
to brighten its slumberous life
The ground was cold
and brought the moss
The sky was tired of the green
and brought the white clouds
to join its screen
The valley felt too bright
and brought the mountains
to tame the sun’s explosive light
Who will bring you to me
We will see

If I Turned Left
05:34
|
|||
If anything had changed that night
If I’d turned left and not to the right
How many pages would I have had to rewrite
What if I hadn’t hidden from the rain
If I’d brought an umbrella
I would have caught the train
Then you and me
would have been an unsung refrain
But, to dwell on the past, I don’t need to do
’cause magic that night brought me to you

Magpie
04:57
|
|||
Sitting stock-still in a frozen tree
Trapped by the cold. Got no better place to be
Trying to keep warm, with each and every feather
Guess you miss someone, with whom to freeze together
Lonely Magpie. Last night you were
sitting close to the sweetest crow.
Sharing memories from spring and summer
Do you know where she did go?
Your beak is sunken, in the white and black
You’ve got no song to sing, until she is back

Ten Seconds
07:21
|
|||
Ten seconds was all it took to tear apart
The place that you’d let me have in your heart
My hurtful words burst like bubbles
from a deep dark tarn
Unravelled love like knitting reduced to yarn
I tried to say it didn’t mean a thing
With a stranger’s eyes you twisted off your ring
You put my words on a scale of trust
and found they only equalled dust
Ten seconds was all it took to tear apart
the place that you’d let me have in your heart
Ten words was all it took to lose the key
that once unlocked the doors between you and me

Snoring Husband
05:33
|
|||
Don’t hit your snoring husband
Don’t hit your snoring man
Even though he snores as loud
as a roaring Chevy Van
Maybe he dreams he’s sitting
on a cloud with you way up high
Watching a million twinkling stars on the sky
I know that he steals your sleep
and blows you out of bed
Maybe just now he dreams he is kissing you
Closing his eyes makes him start missing you
Don’t hit your snoring husband
Don’t hit your snoring man
Even though he snores as loud
as a roaring Chevy van
